An Indispensible Tool For Serious Bible Study
Bill M.· Review provided by churchsource.com · October 9, 2023
First of all, ordering from ChurchSource was a tremendously pleasant experience. I shopped during the Semi-Annual sale and was shocked to discover that the prices were often LOWER than Amazon. Plus, the shipping on ChurchSource was free over a certain (very reasonable) amount. Best of all, my orders sometimes arrived within a couple of days of me placing them, which was even FASTER than Amazon!
For my money (literally!), ChurchSource beats Amazon.
I'd known about the book How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth for years. But I never gave it much thought. Never picked it up to read it - until I bought it from ChurchSource to give to a friend I'm discipling.
When I opened it, I was shocked to see how deep and yet enjoyable it is to read.
There are chapters in here titled...
The Need to Interpret
A Good Translation
Learning to Think Contextually
The Hermeneutical Questions
Wait - what? "Hermeneutical"? That's a word only for seminary students and scholars...isn't it?
No. It's for all serious students of the Bible.
If you want to know how to read the Bible, well, for all it's worth, then you need this book by Gordon Fee and Douglas Stuart. Despite some deep subject matters, the book is exceptionally well written and accessible.
If you want a kind of seminary education in 300 pages, one that only costs less than $20 on sale, you need to read How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth. I guarantee you will finish this book and say, "Wow. I can't believe what I learned about reading the Bible! I get so much more out of my Bible now!"
Great guide

This is a thorough and practical guide to reading the Bible well. It teaches skills for reading the Bible in its various genres. One must be aware that the authors take certain positions that not all will agree with. For example, in this book the Old Testament law is taught to be not directly applicable to New Testament Christians. Another example is that this book teaches that the titles to each Psalm are not inspired. This book is well-worth reading as long as one is careful to note these potential issues. Highly recommended for serious students of the Bible taking their first steps into more serious study.

Was delivered on time and in good condition. I am reading it as part of a study group and I am not sure if it is a book I would have chosen for myself. However, it has a clear style and shows a depth of knowledge without technical jargon, and its seems a good outline of its subject.

Suitability:10/10

Sorry for the late review. The items arrived in their best condition. I think I would read this book before starting to read the entire Bible again next year — as I'm halfway through the entire Bible for this year's reading. God bless!
