How many penalties have been awarded at the 2018 World Cup in Russia so far?

THE Video Assistant Referee is in force for the first time at this summer's World Cup.

Match-changing decisions such as penalties are looked over by the assistants in the Moscow VAR booth, before they advise the on-field referee on whether to stick or change their initial call.

How many penalties have been awarded in the World Cup?

THERE has been plenty of controversy over the introduction of the technology after a number of calamitous trials in Europe and the Confederations Cup.

So far at the World Cup, there have already been 28 penalties awarded.

This included a mad third day, where there were five spot-kicks awarded across four games.
